In 1988, Louis Vuitton marked its first step on the road to Rome, and established its first store in the city at the famous San Lorenzo in Lucina Square.
Over twenty years later, “Roma Etoile” will open its doors to the public. Entirely reinterpreted by architect Peter Marino, this historical cinema, dear to Roman citizens, will offer visitors a comprehensive product range. Like a rite of passage, they will pass before the works of artist Georg Dokoupil before reaching the heart of the store, where an elliptical staircase pays tribute to the baroque architecture of the Italian capital and provides, thanks to its unusual shape, an open view of the three levels.
“In this historical venue, which has been dedicated to cinema for almost a century, we have taken up a cultural and architectural double challenge. Without taking anything away from the prestigious past of this symbol of the Eternal City, we are embarking on a distinctive project which combines exceptional craftsmanship, art and culture in time and space.” states Yves Carcelle, President of Louis Vuitton.
This exceptional renovation and architectural creation will welcome the most prestigious creations of the House. Luggage, exceptional leather goods, men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, shoes, watches, jewellery and accessories will co-exist with a genuine screening room where short films, documentaries and original creations will be projected.
Handmade Cinema, a documentary produced by Luchino Visconti di Modrone, directed by Guido Torlonia and written by Laura delli Colli will mark the beginning of the project, showing the passion the Maison has for the “craftsmen of cinema”. Continuing this commitment, the partnership with the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, the oldest and most prestigious school for professions of the seventh art, will encourage the development of new talents, thus sealing Louis Vuitton’s attachment to values of passing on and maintaining excellence in all areas of expertise.
