Dries Van Noten Spring 2013 Paris Fashion Week

"The more clashing it is, the more that I like it!" -Dries Van Noten

Dries Van Noten Spring 2013- He presented ruffled 3-D flower appliques and floral prints mixed with blown-up Prince of Wales check, plaid, tartan and beaded denim. Those were pursued eccentrically down the catwalk by sheer organza shirts, metallic menswear jackets and oversized peplums.

Yet the preview, incredibly, was of the most harmonious Van Noten shows in some time, owing to its fine tonal color palette. Traditional tartans blended softly into a haze of faded orange, peach, rose, nude, russet, silver and duck egg blue.

It felt like spring was in the air.

Gareth Pugh Spring 2013 Paris Fashion Week

Gareth Pugh  Spring 2013

“Hard femininity,” was how Gareth Pugh described his show, inspired, he says, by the rawness of Latin American cockfighting.

Sure enough, black nappa kimono looks opened the collection swirling stiffly and authoritatively — with one model in a two-foot mourning veil.

However, the raw shock-factor — Pugh’s signature — was short-lived for once. It soon gave way to a series of softer, elegant and more mature looks in sweeping vermilion, black fringing and pale dove gray.

The Latin feel was captured in a series of textured 3-D ruffles reflecting a coiffed, full-breasted cock, ready for the fight.

The designer’s introspection was tangible, from the simplicity of the decor to Rebekah del Rio’s haunting a capella singing to the clean, highly wearable silhouettes. Could Wednesday’s show have been a coming of age for London’s enfant terrible?

“Some things happened to me recently,” Pugh said. “Sometimes you just can’t help changing, some things are out of control.”

Sharon Stone bounces back from migraine at Milan fashion week

U.S. actress Sharon Stone bounced back from a hospital admission at Milan fashion week to chair a star-studded fundraising gala on Saturday.
Stone, 55, was admitted to hospital with a migraine after attending a runway show by Italian fashion house Fendi on Friday, raising questions over whether she could chair the Saturday AIDS research fundraiser as planned.
The "Basic Instinct" star suffered a health scare in 2001 when she was hospitalized for a brain aneurysm - bleeding in the brain that can cause stroke - after suffering severe headaches.
Dressed in a deeply plunged long black draped dress, the actress smiled at cameras and reassured reporters outside the event about her condition.

DSQUARED2 Spring 2013 Milan Fashion Week

Dean and Dan Caten's Spring 2013 collection of RTW micro-mini shorts, leather boustiers, newsboy caps and cropped t-shirts take us through the Nineties, again, though perhaps a tad too literally.

Gold and lots of it came by way of super-blinging chains, layered on and around the hips, around wrists and necklaces, tumbling down backs and anywhere else, frankly, they could get a look in.

Biker jackets, bustier tops, lacing, white shirts and blazers and jeans, and heels you wouldn't ever want to find yourself coming face to face with , were the staples here.

Roberto Cavalli Spring 2013 Milan Fashion Week

Roberto Cavalli’s spring 2013 runway show was unveiled on one of the many catwalks of Milan fashion week

Dresses that hung loose and lean on the body were sexy but not too brash - those versions stepped in later - embroidered and beaded, slashed and diced into shape. There was that nod to the drop waist that we see time and again from Cavalli and there were lace inserts or laced-up legs on flared trousers.

Shoulders were pronounced to match the width of those super breezy trousers and yet more dresses with slinky little straps were wispy and layered, pretty even.
